A Leeds-based entrepreneur is expanding an online learning community designed to help small business owners and freelancers navigate the increasingly complex world of digital marketing without the jargon, pressure, or high costs often associated with professional training.
Founded by Rebecca Hopwood, the founder of Youbee Media, The Hive Academy has grown steadily since launching less than six months ago, becoming a practical, peer-supported toolkit for startups and scaling businesses across the UK.
The Academy brings together on-demand training, expert insight and community support in one place, responding to a growing challenge faced by small firms: information overload driven by social media, AI tools and conflicting business advice.
“Many business owners don’t lack motivation, they lack clarity. They’re constantly targeted with advice that’s contradictory, overwhelming or unrealistic for their stage of business. The Hive Academy was built to cut through that noise and give people confidence in what they’re doing,” said Hopwood.
Unlike traditional courses, The Hive Academy is designed to evolve alongside its members. New tools, resources and formats are added regularly, reflecting real-world changes in marketing and business growth.
One of the latest additions is The Sting Series, a short-form podcast introduced as an extension of the Academy’s learning resources. The series features 30-minute conversations with industry specialists, offering practical insight into topics members often find intimidating, from SEO and social media to branding, video and business growth.
“The podcast isn’t about trends or hacks,” Rebecca added. “It’s about helping people understand where to start, what questions to ask, and when expert support actually makes sense. It’s another way to make learning feel accessible and less isolating.”
The Hive Academy offers a low-cost monthly membership model designed to remove barriers to professional development, and members say the approach is helping them feel more confident and consistent in their marketing.
Kirsty Watson, founder of Little Ritual – Japanese Head Spa & Hair Studio, said: “I’ve found the Academy incredibly helpful, particularly the social media tools and explanations around algorithms. It’s given me clarity around what to post and why, and the flexibility to learn in my own time makes a huge difference.”
The Hive Academy is part of a wider mission by Youbee Media to make marketing support more human, practical and inclusive. Rebecca also works closely with regional organisations, including the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, AD:VENTURE, universities and business support programmes, delivering training to hundreds of businesses each year.
