OMG – check out the talented girls looking for a career in tech!
Digital marketing agency Clicky Media hosted a successful female-focused tech conference at the Manchester headquarters of UKFast – and BusinessCloud was there.
Hundreds of attendees aged 18+ heard from industry experts including Kate Willard, head of corporate projects for the Stobart Group, and took part in inspirational workshops including ‘getting your head around code’, ‘digital and social media marketing’, ‘confidence building’, ‘web design’ and ‘interview tips and tricks’.
Willard’s keynote speech included five tips for success – you can find these in the tweets embedded at the bottom of this article.
The ‘OMG! Girls in Tech’ event was designed to discover talent, develop skills and kickstart careers in the digital and tech industries.
And, as our video shows, having fun was a key part of the experience!
Rachel Bartholomew, a research associate at the University of Central Lancashire, was one of the attendees.
She said: “I’m currently working on a project at UCLAN about art and place, which involves creating a new interactive digital platform to make art projects accessible.
“I was really interested in the virtual reality workshop as this is what my project will largely involve.
“I think events like this give people a rare opportunity that to learn, collaborate and network.”
There was also a passionate panel discussion featuring Willard, Claire Dodd, founder of Code Up, Chelsea Slater, co-founder of Liverpool Girl Geeks, Clicky Media founder and CEO Oliver Yeates and Clicky director Sam Gadsby.
We will feature the content from that talk on gender constructs and the restraints within the tech field that females experience from an early age next week.
