Short-form video giant TikTok has confirmed it will be further investing into the UK, expanding its presence with a new London office and additional jobs.
Nearly half of the country now use the social media platform, with the company confirming it has over 30m monthly UK users.
The business, whose global headquarters are located in LA, California and Singapore, will grow its UK workforce to 3,000 this year with the addition of more than 500 jobs.
TikTok is investing in a new 135,000 sq ft office in Barbican, London, set to open in early 2026, which will complement the 88,500 sq ft Farringdon head office which opened in 2022.
According to the firm, the developments will take investment in its UK infrastructure to around £140m since launching here in 2018.
More than 1.5m UK businesses are now on TikTok, which contributed an additional £1.6bn to the UK economy whilst supporting 32,000 jobs.
“Whether through direct investment in jobs and innovation, or the wider economic contribution from millions of British businesses on TikTok, we’re pleased to be increasing our investment and presence here in the UK, an important hub for TikTok,” said Adam Presser, director of TikTok UK and global head of operations and trust and safety.
“What underpins our continued growth is our deep commitment to safety and to creating an enjoyable and secure digital space to sustainably support creators, entrepreneurs and the wider economy, which is why we also invest significantly in safety.
“From thriving small businesses to breakthrough music stars, from BookTok creators to viral historians, I want to thank the more than 30 million people that make TikTok the vibrant and unique community it is today in the UK.”
TikTok has also ramped up its security, investing billions in safeguarding and protecting the platform every year.
This includes £10bn over ten years in Project Clover, which is said to have introduced some of the most advanced and stringent data protections anywhere in the industry.
Additionally, Manchester-based cybersecurity firm NCC Group now independently monitors, checks and validates TikTok’s European data security measures around the clock.
