Manchester-headquartered tech recruitment specialist Oscar has opened its latest office in the US – and unveiled plans for three more around the world.

The opening in San Diego, California, is in addition to four other US offices in Austin, Houston, Philadelphia, and Tampa but is the first on the West Coast of America.

The company is preparing to open a sixth office in the US in Scottsdale, Phoenix, on December 1, followed by openings in Amsterdam and Sydney.

Oscar employs 200 people globally, including 90 in Manchester, and recently achieved record-breaking turnover of £45m in their last financial year.

As well as being about growth, CEO Andy Morrell said the company’s global expansion strategy was also enabling staff to work around the world.

“There are lots of sound business reasons for expanding internationally,” he said. “The UK recruitment market is saturated, especially in technology recruitment.

“However, our expansion is as much about looking after our staff as it is about growth.

“A lot of people start in recruitment in their 20s and have a thirst for travelling. They want to see the world.

“Technology allows people to work anywhere but we don’t believe in a completely dispersed workforce with people always working remotely.

“We already have eight UK staff who want to work in the US, so it also helps us with the recruitment and retention of staff.”

In the UK, the Oscar Technology and Oscar Digital brands account for 100 per cent of the organisation’s work, while in the US it represents 85 per cent as they also operate the Oscar Energy, Oscar Life Sciences and Oscar Construction brands – recruiting top talent in these industries.

Morrell said: “We chose San Diego for lots of reasons. It’s on the West Coast and it’s a great place to relocate staff to.

“Renewable energy is a big thing locally. All our brands will be there in San Diego, but we are starting there with our Oscar Energy brand.

Tech leaders lift the lid on the challenge of recruitment

“We’re about to open in Scottsdale next week, which will be our sixth US office.

“In 2023 we’re opening in Amsterdam in Q4 and we’re going through due diligence on an office in Sydney.

“We’re proud to be headquartered in Manchester and pride ourselves on building long-standing relationships with our candidates and clients.”
