North West tech entrepreneur and WeBuyAnyCar.com founder Noel McKee has become an investor in regeneration company Urban Splash.
McKee has joined the Manchester-headquartered firm’s modular housing division along with architect and Channel 4 presenter George Clarke.
The news follows the announcement that Urban Splash, which has operations across England, agreed to acquire certain trade and assets of SIG Building Systems, the modular offsite construction arm of SIG plc.
“Urban Splash’s timing and approach to tackling the housing shortage is a true game changer,” McKee said.
Urban Splash chairman Tom Bloxham MBE added: “I have known and admired George and Noel for a number of years; they are both great entrepreneurs and it’s fantastic they have come on board as investors in and advisors to our modular housing business.
“Noel disrupted the used car market with his invention of WeBuyAnyCar.com; in housing, we’re challenging another traditional market – new homes – so Noel’s wealth of knowledge is crucial for us as we look to move innovation forward in this sector.”
Urban Splash has been developing its modular portfolio for the past 10 years.
The company’s first foray using offsite technology was at its Moho development in Manchester’s Castlefield. It has now turned its attentions to the roll-out of its customisable town house.
