Appointments

Nominet, the official registry for domain names ending in ‘.uk’ such as gov.uk and nhs.uk, has chosen Paul Fletcher as its next CEO.

Fletcher is currently CEO at BCS, the chartered institute for IT, an organisation with 60,000 members.

He will join Nominet in February 2022.

Fletcher’s career has focused on technology and education. During his time at BCS, he led a programme promoting digital apprenticeships that helped restore the organisation to profitability after a regulatory change had a major impact on revenues.

Prior to his time at BCS, Paul was MD of educational technology at RM Education, an educational technology business, and has held a number of operational management and strategic consultancy roles.

Nominet chair Andrew Green said: ‘We were looking for a CEO who would put purpose at the heart of Nominet. Someone to oversee a significant increase in public benefit spending and build strong relationships with members.

“And of course someone with the operational experience to run part of the UK’s critical national infrastructure smoothly and deliver a world class service for members and customers.

“Paul has the breadth of experience to take the organisation forward into its next phase.”

Fletcher said: “Nominet has played an important role in the UK’s digital economy for over 25 years.  While I’ll be sad to leave BCS, the professional body for the IT industry is in very capable hands.

“I’m exceptionally proud to join another purpose-driven organisation, respected for its work running a reliable and responsible .uk registry and contributing to a more secure online world. I look forward to meeting members and the Nominet team.”

Paul will join the Nominet board when he takes up his appointment.
