Entrepreneur Steve Oliver has been confirmed as one of the speakers for an exclusive event about the growing success of Stockport.

Oliver is the CEO and co-founder of musicMagpie, which was launched from a garage in Hazel Grove in 2007 and is now based in Stockport Exchange.

Last year he took the business through an IPO and achieved revenues of £145.5m for the 12 months to November 30, 2021.

Oliver will be taking part in an event entitled ‘The rise and rise of Stockport’ on June 7th in the offices of growing ecommerce website creator Shopblocks, in St Peter’s  Square, Stockport.

He’ll be joined by Shopblocks’ CEO and co-founder Kevin Jones and Phil Mayall, of Muse Developments, who has just been named Property Personality of the Year at Insider’s 2022 North West Property Awards.

Stockport has been transformed in recent years through major regeneration schemes including Stockport Exchange and the £120m overhaul of Stockport bus station.

Away from business the fortunes of Stockport County FC have been transformed under the ownership of entrepreneur Mark Stott, culminating with their return to the Football League after winning the National League title.

Stockport County’s director Steve Bellis has also been confirmed for the event along with Stockport councillor Cllr Elise Wilson, who is also GMCA’s  portfolio lead for economy and business.

More speakers will be confirmed nearer the time, which will be hosted by award-winning journalist Chris Maguire.
