A political podcast launched by journalists Michael Taylor and Chris Maguire has proved so popular it’s been renewed for a second series.
The duo are both former editors of North West Business Insider and launched ‘Northern Spin’ in September to give a greater voice to the North.
The podcast is made by Manchester-based production company What Media and has regularly appeared in the top 10 of Apple’s Podcast Charts.
Taylor, who describes himself as a ‘journalist and politico’, said: “It’s gone even better than we could have imagined. Chris and I both love political podcasts but recognised a gap in the market for one that focused on the North.
“The launch of Northern Spin coincided with the most absurd period anyone can remember in British politics, marked with Liz Truss becoming the shortest-serving PM in UK history.
“The challenge has been squeezing it all into a 30-minute weekly podcast so we’ve already started producing regular Northern Spin Extra podcasts when we have a special guest interview.”
Maguire, who is the executive editor of BusinessCloud and sister website TechBlast, said it was an easy decision to bring back Northern Spin back for a second season.
“We agreed at the outset with What Media that we’d produce an initial 10 podcasts and see if there was an appetite for more,” he said. “Thankfully there was.
“To see Northern Spin in Apple’s Podcast Charts alongside the likes of the BBC’s Americast and The Week in Westminister has been amazing.
“It’s pretty humbling to see how far the podcast has reached but we couldn’t have done it without What Media and our sponsors Oscar Technology.”
You can listen to Northern Spin on Apple, Spotify and all the main podcast platforms.
