US President Donald Trump is set to touch down in the UK this month with a mass of tech giants for what Downing Street has billed as a ‘truly historic’ state visit.
Sky News has reported that a number of Silicon Valley heavyweights are expected to accompany Trump during his three-day stay, which is set to take place between 17-19th September.
Among the attendees are Jensen Huang, who heads up the $4tn chipmaking firm Nvidia; OpenAI boss Sam Altman; Larry Fink, chairman and CEO of BlackRock; and Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzman. Apple chief Tim Cook is also understood to have been invited and could make an appearance.
This will be Trump’s second official state visit to the UK, a unique move as US presidents traditionally receive only one invitation of this kind.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer extended the offer earlier this year during a White House meeting on trade, calling the move ‘unprecedented’ and a chance to strengthen UK-US ties.
Trump described the invitation as a ‘great, great honour’.
The trip will see King Charles host the President and First Lady Melania Trump at Windsor Castle, while protests organised by the Stop Trump coalition are planned in London.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has already pledged to boycott the event in protest over Trump’s foreign policy stance.
News of the tech titans rumoured to be descending on the UK comes just a day after Trump attended the US Open final in New York to a mixture of boos and cheers from the crowd at Flushing Meadows.
The focus is likely to fall on tech, AI and fresh investment opportunities, with talks of closer ties on nuclear energy to be expected amidst ongoing rows over tariffs, steel and drug prices.
