Veteran dealmaker Jonathan Boyers has said the team is ‘buzzing’ after his first six months at Alvarez & Marsal.

Boyers joined the global professional services firm earlier this year as managing director and head of corporate finance for EMEA.

He took to LinkedIn to provide a progress report and said the deals market was buoyant.

“It’s worth reminding people that A&M have successfully operated a corporate finance business across the global practice for 15 years with some extremely experienced practitioners on board for years,” wrote Boyers.

“Our task was to scale the business up into a market leading, sector-focused, globally-connected offering.

“Over 65 more people have agreed to join the UK business and we have recruited country heads to lead the practice in Germany and France, the build out is now ongoing across Europe.

Dealmaker is upbeat about M&A activity for rest of 2024

“We have healthcare, business services, consumer, hotels and hospitality and TMT teams fully formed and very busy. We have regional coverage teams in Manchester, Leeds Birmingham, and London.

“As of this morning our Deal Cloud system showed over 40 live disposal mandates and a small number of buy side roles.

“We are very pleased and humbled by the support we have had from clients and the market generally. We are receiving instructions from our core market of entrepreneurs and families and increasingly from PE houses and family offices. We have also taken on several (often larger) mandates as part of multidisciplinary A&M teams.

“Culturally the team is absolutely buzzing. Approaching 50 per cent of the team are female and we have a multicultural mix.

“Our cultural focus has been towards exceptional senior led client service, relentless high-quality origination and creating an obsession with people development and collaboration (with each other and with clients).”

Boyers said Alvarez & Marsal was winning most of the  competitive pitches it was involved in.

“We are very pleased with where we are at this moment and we always retain plenty of humility because we know we are fortunate to have the opportunity to build this business and to work with such great clients,” he added.

“Personally, I am incredibly grateful to the entire team for their trust, attitude, and the results we are achieving.”
