Unlikely duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Matthew Vaughn have announced the launch of an independent joint venture film studio which is said to embrace innovative technology, with a nod to tradition. 

The pair have launched UR•MARV, through which they have financed and produced two action films together – and are about to begin work on a third in the series.

British filmmaker Vaughn is best-known for his work producing, writing and directing on hit film series’ including Kick Ass, X-Men and Kingsman. 

He will team up with global footballing phenomenon Ronaldo, who has been an active figure in the world of investment.

The Portuguese record-breaker invested in personalised nutritional supplements developer Bioniq in 2023, which brought the London-based firm’s value up to $82m. 

With his eyes now firmly set on the world of filmmaking, Ronaldo said, “This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures in business.”

Vaughn added: “Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him.

“He’s a real-life superhero.”
