The average salary in the UK and Ireland’s tech sector has passed £80,000, according to Computer Weekly.
Research from the IT website found that the average annual salary of tech workers is now £81k.
The drastic increase on the 2017 figures of just under £65k was put down to the increasing need for specialised roles such as cyber security and data science coupled with the lack of people capable of filling them.
Computer Weekly said top executives are earning an average of £184k while those below them are on around £125k. Roles such as managers or architects pull in £75k a year.
The group of workers most likely to move between companies to earn more money is that of general IT staff, which pick up around £45k on average.
Almost half of respondents to the salary survey work for larger enterprises with more than 1,000 people. These companies tend to pay more than SMEs.
