Atom Bank won the Outstanding Achievement award at the BT Dynamites 17 while HiveHR was named the North East’s New Business of the Year.

Almost 400 people attended the event at Newcastle Civic Centre hosted by local actor Daymon Britton, who has appeared in a multitude of TV shows from Byker Grove to Hollyoaks and Casualty.

The awards, run by Dynamo, recognise the established and future stars of a sector growing in importance to the regional economy.

“We’re proud to have won the biggie at the #dynamites17 awards for Outstanding Achievement,” Atom Bank tweeted.

Stuart Lynn, chief product delivery officer for Sage and chair of the awards panel, said: “[The Dynamties are] great news for our region and we should see this as a platform for future growth – and that’s what Dynamo is all about, building a thriving technology entrepreneurship culture across our region.

“We want to continue to help businesses across the region from start-up to enterprise and we want to see more success across our region.

“We want to help build and retain an excellent skills pipeline, especially young talent and we also want to push hard on diversity … this is a key part of the secret recipe for regional success.
