Retail giant Amazon will open a new head office in London’s Shoreditch as part of a UK-wide drive to recruit 5,000 new full-time staff members.

Roles ranging from software developers to engineers and entry-level positions will grow the Seattle-based firm’s British workforce to 24,000.

These jobs will be centered around its London head office, Edinburgh and three new distribution centres.

Following the announcement, UK country manager Doug Gurr, said: “We are creating thousands of new UK jobs including hundreds of apprenticeship opportunities as we continue to innovate for our customers and provide them with even faster delivery, more selection and better value.

“We are hiring for all types of roles from flight test engineers, software engineers and corporate managers in our development centres and head office, to operations managers, supervisors, engineers, service technicians, HR roles and order fulfilment roles in our fulfilment centres.”

The new UK head office will be at the 15-storey Principal Place, and will complement Amazon’s current HQ at 60 Holborn Viaduct.

The firm said that both buildings combined will provide space for over 5,000 Amazon employees in the capital alone by the end of 2017.
