The dramatic rise in price of SHIBA INU, an Ethereum-based spinoff from Dogecoin, came to an end with a 22% drop in value in the last 24 hours.
It was the worst-performing among the 100 most valuable coins by market cap.
However at the time of writing (7am UK), one SHIB – still worth a tiny fraction of a cent – remains 219% above its valuation a week ago following several days of dramatic gains.
The coin’s growth was seemingly instigated by a tweet from famous backer, Tesla and SpaceX boss Elon Musk, early in the week of his dog on a car.
Parent coin Dogecoin (DOGE), which had shed 6% in the previous 24 hours, stabilised to remain at more than 24c. It is 20% up over the course of a week.
Polkadot (DOT) jumped two places in the valuation table of coins by market cap into eighth after a 7% gain.
The proof-of-stake blockchain platform, which aims to securely connect blockchains as a sort of decentralised internet, is worth $34 and is 17% up over the course of a week.
Another proof-of-stake platform, Cardano (ADA), grew 3% and is closing on third spot in the table. It is 7% up over seven days.
Ahead of it is Binance Coin (BNB), which was up less than 1% to sit at $437. It is 12% up in a week.
Market leader Bitcoin (BTC) dropped 1% to below $54,000 after several days of gains. However it is 23% up over seven days.
Smart contract blockchain platform Ethereum (ETH), the world’s second most valuable crypto, climbed 1% to close on $3,600. It is 18% up in a week.
XRP and Solana both lost a half percentage point. Ripple’s coin remains at $1.07 and is 11% up over seven days. SOL is at $155 and 9% higher than its price a week ago.
Mdex (MDX) was the biggest winner among the top 100 coins, growing 23% to $1.38. It is 21% up in a week.
The overall market cap of the almost 12,500 coins is at $2.29 trillion, a 0.1% rise in the last 24 hours.
