A rival to Uber is offering taxi fares across Manchester of just £2.80.

Gett is an app which allows users to book licensed black cabs.

The firm, which operates in more than 70 cities across the world, claims to run more than half of the black cabs in London.

A statement from the Israeli company read: “Gett, the global on-demand transportation and lifestyle app, is introducing £2.80 rides throughout Manchester after it was named one of the most progressive cities in the UK, with the largest tech cluster and growth outside of London.

“Gett would like to celebrate black cabs being an integral part of the digital revolution by introducing everyone to safe and comfortable travel in a licensed taxi around the city.

“Customers can book £2.80 rides via the Gett app through a special class at the top of the home screen called ‘Gett Promo’.

“There are no time restrictions on this deal, £2.80 rides are available 24/7 including weekends within central Manchester.

“Customers can simply book a black cab via the app and must add their destination and pay by card to get the £2.80 offer.

“An example of a journey that riders can take includes travelling to or from Old Trafford Football Stadium all the way across town to Victoria train station for just £2.80, anytime and day of the week.”

The deal is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Taxi comparison and booking app Karhoo has launched in Newcastle as it takes the fight to cab disrupter Uber.
