Manchester United has appointed a former Yahoo executive in California to head up its digital strategy and MUTV app.
Phil Lynch will be responsible for the subscription-based app, which allows fans in 165 countries to watch matches live, United’s official matchday programme and monthly magazines, and all digital media partnerships.
Lynch was most recently global head/vice-president of content and media partnerships at the search giant, responsible for more than 3,500 content partnerships across all areas.
He also agreed sports broadcast rights deals with the NFL, NHL, MLB and PGA Tour.
Manchester United FC Group MD Richard Arnold said: “Phil’s appointment is an important step in the evolution of our digital strategy.
“He has a wealth of experience at Yahoo and Sony Digital that will add real value and insight to our thinking.”
Lynch was previously senior VP, digital networks and games, at Sony.
