Some of the biggest names from Google and Meta to Amazon and Microsoft have laid off staff across the globe. This trend has been put down to many factors, including over-expansion and a drop-off in consumer demand.
Reasons and analysis are all well and good, but these are real people with real stories. No company wants to make its staff redundant, and historically tech firms have had a reputation of nurturing and supporting their teams, which makes things even tougher for those involved.
As sad as this all is, it is important to note that the majority of these redundancies have tended to be senior management, marketing or support roles; that there is still real demand for junior developers; and that there are amazing career opportunities out there.

They also command lower salaries than their mid-level or senior counterparts, making them an attractive option for both startups and smaller companies who need to balance tight budgets with their tech needs.
Finally, investing in junior developers allows companies to shape and groom talent according to their specific needs and culture. Junior developers can grow with the company, adapting to its unique challenges and opportunities over time. That can’t be underestimated.
