Former Manchester United star turned entrepreneur Gary Neville has become the frontrunner to join the Dragons’ Den line-up following fellow Northern Leader Sara Davies’ imminent departure from the BBC One show.

According to the latest odds from SportsCasting, Neville is now priced at 2/1 to take a seat in the Den, ahead of fellow business heavyweight Karren Brady (4/1) and fashion entrepreneur Emma Grede (9/2).

The hit show returned to screens last week, but the BBC has yet to confirm who will replace Davies, who joined the panel in 2019 and quickly became a fan favourite.

Neville, who has successfully transitioned from footballer to business figure through ventures such as Hotel Football, UA92 and various property projects, has seen his profile in entrepreneurship and broadcasting rise significantly in recent years.

His growing presence appears to have caught the eyes of the bookies.

Neville’s outspoken political views have also kept him in the headlines.

In a recent video which followed the Manchester Synagogue attack, he claimed that political discord in the UK was being driven by “angry middle-aged white men”, and criticised the use of Union Jack flags when displayed “for inflammatory reasons.”

He said: “Seeing the news last night and the news this morning dominated by the horrific attacks within the Jewish community, just a mile from here.

“When I was driving to Salford City last night, going down Littleton Road, I seen probably 50 or 60 Union Jack flags. And on the way back I went down the parallel road, Bury New Road, which has got the Jewish community right at its heart and they’re out on the streets, defiant, not hiding or in fear.

“I just kept thinking as I was driving home last night that we’re all being turned on each other. And the division that’s being created is absolutely disgusting. Mainly created by angry, middle-aged white men, who know exactly what they’re doing.”

The comments sparked mass debate online, but haven’t dented his growing reputation in business and broadcasting circles.

“Gary Neville has moved ahead in the odds to replace Sara Davies, reflecting his growing profile in business and broadcasting,” said Steven McQuillan, spokesperson for SportsCasting.

“While his appointment might spark some debate given recent controversies, Karren Brady and Emma Grede remain strong contenders with proven track records and positive reception.

“The market suggests viewers are looking for a fresh face who can bring both credibility and charisma to the Den.”

Other notable names in the running include Trinny Woodall (6/1), known for her beauty brand Trinny London, and fitness entrepreneur Joe Wicks (16/1), who returns for another guest appearance on the show tonight.

Former Dragons such as Theo Paphitis (16/1) and Duncan Bannatyne (25/1) also feature further down the list, alongside business figures Kelly Hoppen (25/1), Lord Sugar (33/1) and Poppy Gustafsson (33/1).
