Gaming streaming platform Twitch has announced the appointment of Damian Burns as the company’s first EMEA MD.

He will be based in Twitch’s London office and focus on supporting growth of the Twitch community of content creators, media partners, agencies, advertisers, publishers, and developers.

The platform allows gamers to livestream themselves and their gameplay to fans. It hosts between 2 and 3 million monthly broadcasts and is home to around 15 million daily viewers.

Its popularity has led its most successful broadcasters, including ‘Ninja’ to become celebrities in their own right. The gamer has amassed 13 million followers on the platform.

Burns joins from Facebook where he held various executive roles over a five year period, most recently leading games publishing relationships across EMEA.

Previously, Burns spent a decade in global and EMEA leadership roles at Google. These spanned strategic partnerships and responsibility for leading Google’s strategy, revenue and relationships with global agency holding companies and their largest advertising clients.

Sara Clemens, COO of Twitch said of the appointment: “Damian’s deep experience in digital advertising, gaming and community services make him the ideal partner to help realize the potential of multiplayer entertainment.

“He will play an integral role in enhancing Twitch’s position in EMEA.”

Burns said of the firm: “Twitch presents an impossible-to-replicate experience thanks to content creators and their community while offering industry-leading technology and an unparalleled opportunity to media partners, advertisers and publishers alike.

“Twitch is going from strength to strength in EMEA and I am excited to be part of this success story.”
