A tech entrepreneur best known for co-founding fantasy sports platform FanDuel hopes his new ‘social screen-sharing’ app Flick will be an even bigger success.
Rob Jones is co-founder and chief product officer at Edinburgh-based Flick, an app which allows users to share documents, videos and images between any smart devices with a simple ‘flick’.
The 36-year-old is also the former co-founder of FanDuel, a fantasty sports company which at one point had a $1.2bn valuation and employed 450 staff across five global offices.
He also co-established creative digital agency Insight Studios, news prediction platform Hubdub.com and Groopit.com.
“Flick is basically social screen-sharing,” Jones told BusinessCloud.
“We’re allowing users to open up their phone; so you can screen-record your phone and ‘beam it out’ to a closed group of friends.
“To give you an example, you’d go on and play a mobile game and share it with your friends live through Flick.”
Flick is going to be in private Alpha over the summer and is expected to be officially launched in the middle of 2019.
“There’s a lot of design decisions and execution to be done with it, and there are a few technical improvements we need to work on to make sure the experience is amazing and as fast as possible,” Jones said.
“We’ll be closing our seed round imminently over the next few weeks. Product and engineering will be in Edinburgh – we’re passionate to be supporting the tech and design scene here.”
When establishing the new business, Jones said he set out to create something that would be global.
“There are a few really attractive things which potentially make it a much bigger company than FanDuel,” he said.
“We’re really excited to see how it takes off.”
