Price comparison service Broadband Genie has appointed Eliza Vlachou as its first chief executive officer.
Vlachou spent nine years at broadband provider TalkTalk, rising to head of digital marketing and sales, and is a former director of global e-commerce platform Kuva.
Last year Broadband Genie saw record revenue of £4.4m, up 145 per cent in five years, while the number of consumers switching hit an annual high, doubling over the same period.
Broadband Genie, part of the digital marketing and publishing company Genie Ventures, was the UK’s first broadband-only comparison site upon its launch in 2004.
It was initially created to help households to move to the new technology as the country migrated away from dial-up internet.
Advances in internet speed and fierce competition in the market mean Broadband Genie is now used by customers to compare hundreds of broadband contracts and switch to save money on their bills.
Should businesses be paying for your home broadband if you’re working from home?
At Broadband Genie, Vlachou will lead a team from its headquarters in Cambridge. Genie Ventures moved to a tech hub in the city earlier this year.
Vlachou said: “I’m excited to be joining the team at Broadband Genie and continuing its mission to become the website the nation visits to have its broadband questions answered, as well as helping people to switch – and save – as easily as possible.
“The internet is an essential service, and we will always fight for the consumer to make sure they can access it and get the fast speeds and low bills they deserve.
“I want to build upon Broadband Genie’s well-deserved reputation for excellence and increase our share of the affiliate market, working closer with providers.”
Genie Ventures CEO Ciaron Dunne said: “In Broadband Genie’s 20th year, we are delighted to welcome Eliza as its first CEO.
“Her background working in agile start-ups and corporate telecoms made her an ideal choice to lead the business and our talented team.
“Eliza’s marketing experience, commercial knowledge and creativity will be a huge asset as we drive the brand forward and deliver more for our customers.”
