Bitcoin is closing on $40,000 after widespread gains in the cryptocurrency market.

At the time of writing (7am UK), BTC is around $38,500 following a 12% increase in 24 hours – a 21% rise in a week.

The sea of green sees almost all the 100 most valuable coins gain value, while the overall value of the market is at $1.53 trillion, a 10% increase in 24 hours.

The world’s second most valuable crypto, Ether (ETH), climbed 9% and is now at $2,350, up 23% over seven days.

Ripple’s XRP coin is at 67 cents, up 10% in 24 hours and 14% in a week.

Cardano (ADA) rose an impressive 13% to reach $1.38, with a seven-day price which is up 16%.

Binance Coin (BNB) climbed 7% to $322 and is also 7% up over seven days.

Meme coin Dogecoin (DOGE) is at 23c thanks to a 15% spike which sees it improving 26% in a week.

Amp (AMP) was the biggest winner, rising 37% (61% up in a week), closely followed by Zilliqa (ZIL), which gained 30% (33% in a week).
