Streaming giant Netflix is planning a move into a new headquarters in London’s West End.
The US company is to take over a lease on an 87,000 square-foot building on Berners Street from current occupant Capita, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Netflix, which has 269 employees in the UK, already rents around 30,000 square feet of space in two buildings close to its new address, one of which is said to be retained.
The reported move will give the company a total of around 100,000 square feet of office space.
Netflix’s current UK productions include The Crown and Sex Education, Criminal: UK and The Duchess.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to the UK, we are excited to expand our operations in London,” Netflix said in a statement.
“It will ensure that we can better serve our members and the local creative community.”
Commenting on the expansion , Stephen Kelly, Chair of Tech Nation added: “We always welcome companies from around the world setting up headquarters in the UK.
“The UK has all the prerequisites needed for companies to do so successfully – a favourable time zone for international business, world leading universities, global talent, and the heart of global finance.
“International companies coming to the UK, particularly those that are fast growing, creates a favourable tech ecosystem here as a whole. They breed high-skilled talent, offer well paid jobs, and bring experience into the ecosystem.
“By 2030 it is expected that 50% of the economy will be in the creative, digital, and tech industries. Netflix’s plans are an example of this in practice – bringing not just digital jobs but much needed creative jobs.”
