Professional social networking giant LinkedIn has officially opened its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) headquarters in Dublin.

The 17,650 sq metre building at Wilton Place is home to a workforce of 1,200, working across sales, marketing, customer service, finance, analytics and engineering.

The Dublin operation serves the entire EMEA region supporting members and customers across two continents.

The five-storey office building was officially opened by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald. The building boasts a range of special facilities including a music studio, a gym, restaurant, coffee bar, roof terrace and games room.

“With our new EMEA HQ in the heart of Dublin, we have an office that we are proud to call home, and we are honoured that An Taoiseach and An Tánaiste were able to join us for this landmark moment for our growth in Ireland,” Sharon McCooey, head of LinkedIn Ireland, said.

“The level of our investment reflects our commitment to Ireland and the great work our amazing team in Dublin does every day.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said: “When LinkedIn first came to Ireland in 2010 we were in the middle of one of our darkest periods economically. But today, thanks to the sacrifices of the Irish people and the policies pursued by the government, our economy has recovered, and we are now facing the future with renewed confidence.”

LinkedIn has had a presence in Ireland since 2010, when it opened its first operations with just three members of staff. The company is continuing to hire in Dublin, with more than 70 new jobs currently being advertised.

LinkedIn was acquired by Microsoft in a $26.2bn deal last year.
