A groundbreaking mental health platform from Psyomics is now available to nearly one in ten Britons to speed up access to mental health care.
beseen, the new platform from Psyomics, has been taken up by five NHS mental health trusts and the UK’s largest private mental health provider the Priory Group, famous for treating celebrities such as Kate Moss and Robbie Williams.
Psyomics is now raising £7.5 million in pre series A funding. The funding round comes on the back of rapid growth since the commercial launch of the platform in 2023 to continue to scale operations to support mental health services worldwide.
Through those five NHS trusts including two of the largest, Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the platform is now available to five million adults.
The expansion of beseen comes as the Labour Government seeks to tackle a backlog of 1.4 million adults. Currently patients are nearly ten times more likely to wait more than 18 months for mental health treatment than physical health treatment.
Mental illness costs the UK economy £300 billion annually and more than 1.35 million adults are currently out of work due to depression, anxiety, or related conditions according to The Centre for Mental Health.
It has been developed by a team from the University of Cambridge working with Psyomics.
It captures data directly from patients, about their symptoms, social and personal circumstances, which enables clinicians to receive comprehensive, data driven reports.
The reports help clinicians propose the best intervention for individual needs which is integrated into electronic records.
Patients will no longer have to repeat their story multiple times, a process consistently cited as one of the most distressing aspects of seeking mental health care, improving both patient engagement and experience.
The platform represents a seismic shift from traditional paper-based assessments, achieving a 78% completion rate.
Using the platform 25% of submissions have been completed outside of normal healthcare opening times leading to a large improvement in accessibility.
Access to the technology places NHS patients on an equal footing with those treated at private facilities such as the Priory Group, who have also signed up for the platform.
Patients in some of Britain’s most deprived communities, such as in Haringey, North London, which have higher than average incidences of poor mental health will now receive the same technology to help.
Some 71% of users said they found the platform ‘easy’ or ‘very easy’ to answer and 82% said it ‘covers all relevant areas of their mental health’.
Dr Melinda Rees, CEO of Psyomics, said: “Every single additional day of waiting for your turn to get to the top of the waiting list is a day of unnecessary suffering.
By using data driven insights we are enabling clinicians to make faster, safer decisions while giving patients a voice in their own care journey.
“The fact that NHS patients will now have access to the same technology as private healthcare providers represents genuine equality in mental health services.”
Jess Lievesley, chief operating officer, North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT), said: “Our collaboration with Psyomics represents a significant advancement in how we support mental health across the communities of North Central London.
“By combining NLFT’s clinical expertise with Psyomics’ cutting-edge digital innovation, we are making it easier for individuals to access timely care and creating a more personalised experience.”
