Billionaire tech entrepreneur James Dyson has revealed plans to build a test track as he accelerates his electric car project.
Vacuum cleaner inventor Dyson published details of a planning application to build more than ten miles of test track and a new complex capable of housing 2,000 staff on a former World War Two airfield in Wiltshire.
And he said his firm would invest another £116 million on development of his electric car, which is set to launch in 2021 and is currently being worked on by 400 people.
If successful, it would take the total spent on the project to £200m.
“We are now firmly focused on the next stage of our automotive project, strengthening our credentials as a global research and development organisation,” Dyson said.
Jim Rowan, chief executive of Dyson, said the Hullavington site could become a “world-class vehicle testing campus”.
