Jordan Brompton, co-founder of Grimsby-based GreenTech firm myenergi, has announced she’s stepping down from her day-to-day role.

The award-winning entrepreneur remains a shareholder and board member but will continue supporting myenergi in an advisor/ambassador role.

The decision to step down after eight years comes just days after Brompton won the Northern Leaders’ Business Champion Award for Yorkshire & Humberside.

The 35-year-old has been the public face of myenergi and is also a published author.

She took to social media to explain her decision.

“I started with -£20k in my bank with my business partner and now one of my best friends Lee Sutton [and grew] to a £50m+ turnover business,” she said.

“Together we built one of the fastest-growing tech businesses in the UK.

“We met and built one of the best teams in our industry and I’ve made friends for life on this crazy ride from far and wide.

“We proved you can have success with British manufacturing and do it profitably.

“I’ve travelled the world growing the business, wrote a children’s book and had some of the best experiences of my life. Myenergi opened so many doors for this lass from Grimsby.

“We’ve given hundreds of thousands back to the local community and created real career opportunities for people.

“We smashed through barriers, we laughed, we’ve cried.

“The highs have been extremely high [and] the lows have been the lowest! But what a ride! What an experience.

“I’ve decided to take a step back from ‘the job’ to enjoy some well earned rest and family time before pursuing my next adventure.”

Her co-founder Lee Sutton described her as an ‘inspiration’.

“We’ve been through so much together, I’m sure we could write a book,” he said.

“Eyenergi certainly would not have been the success it has been without you. Thank you for the fond memories and being by my side through thick and thin, it’s been a wild ride and I wish you all the best with whatever amazing things you do next.”

Brompton hasn’t revealed what she’s doing next but on her personal website she speaks of investing in early-stage startups and helping the next generation of innovators scale their impact.

In a separate announcement Sophie Balshaw, who featured in BusinessCloud’s Northern Leaders Futures list, has revealed she’s leaving her role at Bolton-based cable company ASL after 17 years.

Writing on LinkedIn she said: “The past few months have been by far the hardest of my career. I am just about pulling myself together – pushing through the fear and doubt, and preparing for what lies ahead.

“Thank you all for your amazing support on LinkedIn – you have been truly incredible. They say it’s lonely at the top, but you’ve given me a stage to share my passion and made me feel so seen and supported.

“I am not 100 per cent sure what the new journey looks like, but I’m looking forward to bringing you along with me.”
