Which UK cities are the most ‘crypto-friendly’?

Technology

The UK has a vocal and enthusiastic cryptocurrency community – but how crypto-friendly is it compared with the rest of the world?

The number of Bitcoin cash machines is one indication. As the total number of these ATMs around the world approaches a landmark 4,000 in 75 different countries, we take a look at how the UK compares.

There are 3,992 Bitcoin ATMs worldwide at the time of writing, according to Coin ATM Radar, and increasing at a rate of 6.4 per day.

The United States is the runaway leader with 2,371 machines followed by Canada (680) and Austria (248).

With 208, the UK follows in fourth spot, way ahead of fifth-placed Russia (77).

As you may have guessed, most of the UK’s machines are in London, but the 134 in the capital makes up a whopping 64 per cent of the nation’s total.

Birmingham is second with 17 followed by Manchester (13). Brighton and Cardiff are next with four apiece.

Any crypto fanatics would be advised to head down to Cornwall in the South West: Penzance – of pirates fame – has three machines, making it the most crypto-friendly spot in terms of machines per member of the population.
