Petscribers, the veterinary technology company building a digital prescribing platform for the UK veterinary sector, has been included in Innovate UK’s Women in Innovation cohort.
Veterinary surgeons Dr Angela Jones and Dr Emma Pemberthy founded Petscribers with the tagline ‘Designed By Vets, Made For Pets’.
The pair are developing a secure e-prescribing platform that enables veterinary practices to create, share and fulfil digital prescriptions through a connected workflow spanning practice management systems, insurers, pharmacies and pet owners.

The platform is designed to replace manual prescription processes with secure, auditable digital workflows, reducing administrative overheads while improving interoperability across the veterinary ecosystem.
Petscribers was selected as one of just 61 female-led businesses across the UK from 1,590 applicants and will receive a £75,000 grant.
Delivered by Innovate UK, the programme supports women entrepreneurs who are developing innovative solutions to significant social and economic challenges.
The company is preparing for the general release of its e-prescribing platform in Q3 2026, creating the potential for prescription and medication comparison services to be embedded directly into existing veterinary and insurance platforms.
Dr Angela Jones, co-founder of Petscribers, said: “The veterinary profession is being asked to deliver greater prescription transparency and support more online purchasing, but the underlying digital infrastructure has not kept pace.
“We’re building the infrastructure layer that connects practices, insurers, pharmacies and pet owners through secure workflows, so that digital prescribing can become part of the existing clinical and operational ecosystem rather than another standalone system.
“Innovate UK’s backing gives us additional non-dilutive capital to accelerate development ahead of our Q3 2026 launch, supporting the continued development of Petscribers’ e-prescription platform, including enhanced prescription security, workflow automation, and deeper integration with veterinary practice management systems and insurance providers.”
Innovate UK’s Women in Innovation cohort includes entrepreneurs working on innovations that could improve healthcare, strengthen supply chains, support the transition to net zero and help UK businesses compete in global markets.
Of the 100 women recognised, 61 award winners will receive a £75,000 grant alongside 12 months of tailored business support, training, networking and mentoring opportunities. A further 39 highly commended applicants will receive the same 12-month business support package.
Spanning the UK, from Glasgow to Cirencester and Belfast to Gateshead, the cohort is developing innovative solutions across three priority sectors: advanced manufacturing, digital and technologies, and life sciences.
