Twitter co-founder backs London’s Gyana

Gyana has secured £3m funding in a round which includes Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

The London firm is looking to bring data science capability to everyone, regardless of their technical acumen.

The firm started life in 2015 at Oxford University when scientists Joyeeta Das and David Kell aimed to create a “digital representation of the world” using Big Data and artificial intelligence.

Gyana processes multiple datasets, provided by over 80 data partners, including GPS, applications and telecom, and builds a digital representation of human movement and traffic over time.

Having helped organisations such as the Ministry of Defence to map human movement and the weather, it now counts Vodafone, Barclays, EY, Pret a Manger and Knight Frank among its clients.

Fuel Ventures led the round, which also included Green Shores Capital and U+I.

It has now raised a total of $6.8m.
