Tandem Bank appoints former HSBC head

UK-based digital bank Tandem has appointed Kunal Malani as its Chief Growth Officer.

Malani brings with him experience from positions held at, Barclays and Capital One and as head of banking at HSBC.

Tandem Bank CEO Ricky Knox said he was delighted to welcome the new hire.

“He brings a wealth of experience from over two decades working with legacy banks,” said Knox.

“I look forward to working with him as we drive our international growth plans and deliver on our ambitious domestic targets.

Malani is the latest in a series of senior appointments made by the firm, including Noam Zeigerson as the firm’s chief data officer, and will spearhead Tandem’s international expansion into Hong Kong this year before the frim makes plans for further markets in 2020.

Malani has over 20 years of experience in product and commercial management spread over multiple regions include the UK, US, India and the Middle East.

Prior to joining Tandem, Kunal held leadership positions at multinational banks around the world, including regional head of retail banking products, MENA at HSBC; commercial director at Barclays and head of cross sales at Capital One.

We have hit the ground running with Hong Kong and done so at a great time as local consumers are currently massively underserved when it comes to digital banking,” said Malani.
