SurrealDB, founded by brothers Tobie and Jaime Morgan Hitchcock, has appointed former IBM executive Debbie Landers as strategic advisor.
The siblings – who were included in BusinessCloud’s Founder 250 list, founded SurrealDB in 2021/22, creating what the company describes as the unified data layer for AI – combining a database and agent memory layer in one engine.
Earlier this year, SurrealDB raised $23m in a Series A extension, taking its total funding to $44m.
Announcing the appointment, Jaime said: “Some people shape a company long before they hold a title. Debbie Landers has been part of Surreal DB story ever since Georgian first invested in us.
“Our ICP and buyer workshops. Our OKR and strategy sessions. Our investor narrative. Her fingerprints are on all of it, delivered with generosity, honesty, and a rare operational instinct.
“Her CV speaks for itself. 30+ years at IBM, rising from programmer to general manager. She held executive leadership roles across pretty much all areas of their global database / information management division and led the integration of two large ($1B+) acquisitions.
“Debbie followed this with her role as head of operational success in the portfolio value creation team at Georgian, and now works as an independent consultant, advisor, fractional executive, and board member.
“Today I am delighted to officially introduce Debbie as strategic advisor.”
Landers, who has been advising SurrealDB since August 2025, replied: “I love you guys! So proud to be part of your team.”
Founder 250 shines a light on the UK’s best founder-led and founder-influenced businesses.
