A new film about Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been snapped up by Amazon and will be aired on its Prime TV service.

Make Us Dream is from the producers of award-winning documentaries Senna and Amy – about F1 driver Ayrton Senna and singer Amy Winehouse respectively – and will be shown in UK cinemas on November 15th then made available on the streaming platform.

The documentary tells the story of Gerrard from the early days of his career as a young player at Liverpool to winning two FA Cups, the UEFA Cup and 2005 Champions League and all the way through to his current role as manager of Rangers.

“In modern football, Steven Gerrard is a rarity – a superstar player who stayed loyal to his hometown club. He became perhaps the greatest player in the history of Liverpool FC but did so at a point when success and trophies were on the wane – and it became his personal mission to lift the famous club back to the top,” said film-maker Box to Box Films.

“But with Gerrard that loyalty, which raised him to God-like status with Liverpool fans, could be an unbearable burden, bringing with it a profound sense of responsibility to live up to their and his own expectations.

“The film is a personal story of profound highs and lows, set in the highly pressured, ruthless world of professional football, at a time when the values of the game were radically shifting.

“It offers a penetrating insight into the experience of one of the best known English Footballers of modern times and the pressures, both external and internal, that both drove him forward to glory and defeated him.”

The film has been made by the Oscar and Bafta winning producer James Gay-Rees and is directed by Sam Blair.
