Denver’s Ping Identity has completed the acquisition of biometric authentication specialist Keyless.

The deal brings London-based Keyless’ zero-knowledge biometrics technology into Ping’s portfolio, adding device-independent biometric authentication and re-verification that does not store biometric data in a retrievable or reconstructable form.

The technology enables users to be re-verified in under 300 milliseconds with a single glance, using cryptographic techniques designed to counter threats such as deepfakes, account takeover and identity spoofing.

Ping said the acquisition improves its ability to provide continuous identity assurance across the full identity lifecycle, including onboarding, access, step-up authentication and account recovery.

The news comes just a day after it appointed Adnan Chaudhry as its new chief revenue officer.

Keyless’ approach can re-verify different users on shared devices and does not rely on dedicated hardware, expanding its suitability for mobile, frontline and distributed workforces.

The combined capabilities are intended to support customer, workforce and B2B identity use cases, including passwordless authentication, seamless single sign-on and stronger protection at critical moments such as account creation and recovery.

Keyless, founded to address the privacy and security limitations of conventional biometrics, will now scale its technology through Ping’s global customer base.

Its technology is now available to Ping customers, while financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“AI is accelerating identity-based attacks. Authentication must be resilient and simple to use, while simultaneously ensuring the originally verified user is who they say they are,” said Andre Durand, CEO and founder of Ping Identity.

“Keyless delivers privacy-preserving biometrics that make strong verification effortless.

“Now that the acquisition is complete, we can bring this simplicity and strength to customers across every digital interaction.”

Andrea Carmignani, CEO and co-founder of Keyless, added: “Joining Ping Identity is a major milestone for our team and technology.

“Zero-Knowledge Biometrics allow organisations to re-verify the originally verified identity across the entire journey – onboarding, access, step up, and recovery – without ever exposing biometric data.

“Together with Ping, we can deliver that level of protection at a global scale.”
