Online marketplace OnBuy has appointed AO’s marketing director Cherie Cook to lead its marketing team.

Cook, who has also held positions at Thomas Cook and Bupa, will drive forward plans to make OnBuy a household name.

She ran multi-million-pound campaigns, helping AO to grow threefold.

Online electricals business AO has run into problems recently. It is looking to raise £40 million in a share placing and retail offer after its share price sank to 47p.

“As a true marketing visionary and a leader of AO’s fantastic marketing to date, Cherie has been there and got the T-shirt,” Cas Paton, CEO and founder of OnBuy, said.

“She was the best candidate for OnBuy to fuel our next wave of growth. She’s a forward-thinker with a ‘get it done’ approach – qualities needed to move at the scale we expect.”

Cook will lead large-scale marketing campaigns for OnBuy in 2023, aiming to reach millions more customers and showcase its ethical proposition of being the marketplace that doesn’t compete with its brands and retailers, and rewards customers for their loyalty.

OnBuy was voted No.1 on our RetailTech 50 ranking this year.

Cook added: “OnBuy are on a mission to reimagine how we shop online. In a few short years they’ve achieved well-documented success, gained support from huge brands and millions of shoppers.

“I’ve experienced first-hand what is possible when you truly put customers at the heart of all that you do, so I’m excited to be part of the team that will write the next chapter of the OnBuy story.

“There’s so much more we all want to do to raise the bar for customers and sellers and establish a new ordinary; we’re only just getting started. The marketing team – which is full of smart, curious, and driven people – are set to make OnBuy a destination customers come back to time and time again.”
