Nottingham-based bigspark has acquired Aizle.ai, the synthetic AI product and team from Smart Data Foundry.

Aizle generates privacy-secure synthetic data, allowing organisations to innovate without compromising security, whilst bigspark is a data consultancy specialising in AI-driven innovation.

Edinburgh-based Aizle has grown from a small research initiative employing two data scientists to an 8-strong division and now counts household names and enterprise businesses, including the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Central Bank of Ireland, and the Department for Business and Trade, as clients.

Its technology eliminates data privacy risks and security barriers, enabling financial institutions to unlock the full potential of their data.

“The acquisition marks a significant step forward in our commitment to unlocking growth and opportunity for businesses to deliver tangible results,” said Robin Bradley, CEO at bigspark.

“Aizle’s expertise in financial data and its cutting-edge synthetic data platform perfectly complement our capabilities.

“Together, with the best talent in the data/AI space  we will drive greater innovation, security, and efficiency in AI-powered data solutions.”

Aizle was developed by Smart Data Foundry, part of the University of Edinburgh, to create large-scale synthetic datasets using AI-driven ‘synthetic agents.’

This allows organisations to generate high-quality data where real data is unavailable, biased, or constrained by privacy regulations.

Dougie Robb, CEO of Smart Data Foundry, added: “The acquisition of Aizle by bigspark is a significant opportunity for Aizle to thrive in an environment that is perfectly aligned with its innovative capabilities.”

“bigspark’s expertise and resources will provide Aizle with the fertile ground needed to explore new horizons and expand its impact.

“We are confident that under their stewardship, Aizle will continue to push the boundaries of synthetic data applications, driving forward solutions that benefit both businesses and society.”

bigspark works with leading clients, including eSure, Natwest and Barclays.

With the acquisition, it enables all organisations to adopt AI, realise rewards, share governance across ecosystems, and provide safety, through literacy and evidence.
