A Welsh eSports startup which helps to coach players using artificial intelligence has been acquired in a multi-million-pound deal.

iTero Gaming was founded by Jack Joseph Williams, a former financial analyst at HSBC who channelled his passion for AI into developing predictive models for eSports competition outcomes in his spare time, from his cottage in Cardigan in 2022.

He has been named head of gaming technology at acquirer GIANTX, which was formed from the amalgamation of London-based Excel Esports and Malaga-based Giants Esports last year.

iTero, which focuses on title League of Legends, has amassed nearly a quarter of a million installs of its app. It came through Cardiff-based startup accelerator Tramshed Tech.

“Excel Esports was the first eSports team I became a fan of and I’ve followed their journey over the last few years,” said Williams.

“I believe and have always believed that data and AI have the potential to seriously disrupt the status quo of eSports, whether that’s finding undervalued players or identifying strategies outside of the standard meta.

“I think eSports is ready for the future and I’m really looking forward to what comes next working alongside GIANTX.”
