More than 70 organisations from across Greater Manchester came together at Heaton Park for the first-ever Greater Manchester Wellbeing Run & Walk, a landmark event championing workforce wellbeing and preventative health.
Backed by Mayor Andy Burnham, the event saw leaders including Cllr Bev Craig of Manchester City Council and Caroline Simpson, chief executive of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, join participants on the day.
Teams from all 10 boroughs, spanning private, public and non-profit sectors, took part in an inclusive 2km walk or 5.5km run.
The event marked the first pillar of the GM Wellbeing Series, a city-region movement supporting healthier workplaces through simple tools like movement and mindfulness. The route featured immersive wellbeing experiences including sound baths, Bhangra drummers and interactive zones.

Participating organisations included KPMG, Bruntwood, Co-op Live, British Cycling, Manchester City Council, BusinessCloud and community organisations alongside a dedicated team for freelancers and small businesses.
Nick Rusling, founder of the GM Wellbeing Series, said: “The energy and sense of community at Heaton Park was incredible. This is what our mission is all about, creating a platform for connection and proving that simple, shared activities can have a huge impact.
“The Wellbeing Run & Walk is one of two pillar events in a year-round celebration of wellbeing, and we are thrilled to announce that registration is already open for the next series.”
Cllr Bev Craig, leader of Manchester City Council, added: “The Greater Manchester Wellbeing Walk & Run is a simple but powerful way of bringing people together, while recognising that good physical and mental health are fundamental to a thriving city.

“What makes this particularly special is its inclusivity. It opens the door for colleagues, industries and communities from across Greater Manchester to take part and feel part of something bigger. It reflects what Manchester does best: showing that through goodwill, collaboration and shared purpose, we can create a healthier, more resilient future for everyone.”
BusinessCloud executive editor Chris Maguire completed the 2km walk and praised Rusling for organising the event.
“I don’t I’ve ever seen anyone work as hard as Nick and it all came together on Thursday,” he said.
The GM Wellbeing Series continues year-round, with the new two flagship events already confirmed.
