Manchester City fan wears VR headset during Lyon defeat
A fan who paid to see Manchester City host Lyon in the Champions League on Wednesday night may have been spared seeing the shock defeat with his own eyes – as he was wearing a virtual reality headset.
City lost 2-1 to the French club at the Etihad but the onlooker may have missed the goals as he was busy using a Samsung Gear VR, into which users can plug their Samsung smartphones to experience VR content from the device.
The Football Away Days Twitter account posted images of the fan looking around while wearing the headset – complete with phone – while a female friend also looks back, albeit without a headset.

The pair was also snapped at Brighton’s 2-2 draw at Southampton on Monday night, sparking rumours on Twitter that they were tourists taking in as many games as possible rather than genuine City supporters.
Lyon led the game 2-0 at half-time and City ultimately went down 2-1 after Bernardo Silva pulled a goal back for the Premier League champions, who were missing boss Pep Guardiola from the touchline as he served a touchline ban carried over from last season.
