BGF has appointed former Innovate UK CEO Indro Mukerjee to its deep tech & climate advisory board, a group of experts chaired by Baroness Brown of Cambridge.
Mukerjee brings a wealth of experience, having served as CEO at technology and industrial businesses from multinationals to startups and private equity-backed ventures.
With a global career spanning Asia, the US and Europe, he has led innovation, fast growth, spinouts, M&A and business transformation across many different business situations.
He also co-founded and chaired the UK Electronics Skills Foundation for 11 years from 2010-2021.
The appointment comes shortly after his departure as CEO of Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, a role which he undertook for over three years before leaving in October 2024.
Mukerjee joins a line-up of prominent board members including Juliet Davenport OBE, founder of Good Energy, and Laura Sandys CBE, a leading climate scientist and energy policy expert.
Established in 2022, the board plays a key role in shaping BGF’s investment strategy in the evolving deep tech sector.
It aims to provide critical analysis on opportunities, scaling challenges and market trends.
“I’m pleased to be joining BGF’s deep tech & climate advisory board, to help unlock the full potential of deep tech in the UK,” said Mukerjee.
“BGF is one of the strongest investors in this important sector which has great significance for economic growth and societal impact.”
Dennis Atkinson, co-head of early stage investment at BGF, added: “Indro’s appointment further strengthens the breadth and depth of expertise on our advisory board.
“His perspective and experience will be invaluable as we continue to back the most exciting deep tech entrepreneurs, providing them not just with capital but with the insight, networks, and support they need to navigate the unique challenges of scaling breakthrough technologies.”
BGF, one of the UK’s most active and influential growth capital investors, has been steadily increasing its investments in deep tech and climate related companies.
Recent early stage investments in this space include Phlux Technology, Cambridge GaN Devices, DES Cycle, and Sunswap.
