Software consultancy Codurance has projected an increase of 50% in revenue by its financial year end in October.

Experts in extreme programming, software modernisation, product development and DevOps, its clients include ASOS, Santander and Cazoo, the fastest British business ever to reach unicorn status.

Its Manchester city centre base expects to employ 24 people by the end of this summer, up from four one year ago.

Codurance adopted an agile approach to its working model when the pandemic hit and will continue to place ‘no expectation’ on its 101 employees to work from its Manchester, London or Barcelona offices. However, staff with office-affiliated contracts are expected to work at client-sites if and when required by the client.

The success of Codurance’s flexible model – which also includes fully remote contracts – stems from “listening and looking after our people” according to Amelia Bampton, which has helped the consultancy grow its client base and attract tech talent.

Rodrigo Nascimento and Akbar Zamir recently joined the £8 million turnover software consultancy as head of platform engineering and head of software engineering respectively.

Bampton, regional director of Codurance UK North, said: “It’s a global market much more so now, for both delivery of work for clients and for recruiting and retaining talent. And it’s accelerated at a pace.

“There’s been impressive growth across the whole company resulting in a wide range of roles being recruited for – and that has stemmed from the relaxed and open-minded approach we put in place 18 months ago.

“Through office-affiliated contracts we provide full flexibility for our clients with the commitment to work from their office as and when needed. And we also have in place fully remote contracts.”

Those fully remote contracts are a deal-breaker, according to Bampton, with recruitment in tech arguably the most competitive it has ever been.

“When the tech scene booms like it has, good talent can be hard to find,” she said. “But with the continuing trend of people moving away from London and the already strong pool of existing emerging talent in Manchester and all across northern England we are finding people who have high skills, superb attitude and strong values.

“And that is helping us fill the diverse range of roles we require to continue our pursuit of raising the bar in the software industry through professionalism and technical excellence.”
