Debenhams Group has unveiled a new AI skills academy aimed at equipping its workforce with practical AI expertise in order to boost the business.
The initiative is being delivered in collaboration with EdTech unicorn and workforce development platform Multiverse, which was founded by Euan Blair, son of former Prime Minister, Tony.
Known for its portfolio of well-known fashion and lifestyle brands, including PrettyLittleThing, boohoo, and Karen Millen, retail giant Debenhams is ramping up efforts to close the AI skills gap and embed emerging technologies within day-to-day roles.
The academy is fully funded through the London-based company’s £1.35m apprenticeship levy, allowing employees to take part in structured, hands-on learning while remaining in their current roles.
It follows a string of recent tech-focused investments by the firm, including a multi-year collaboration with Amazon Web Services and a partnership with Manchester-based AI company Peak, aimed at enhancing pricing and promotional strategies using AI.
Participants will learn to leverage AI tools that can boost efficiency, automate repetitive tasks and free up time for more strategic, value-driven work.
Training will also cover how to design and deploy AI systems in-house – reducing reliance on external vendors and accelerating digital transformation.
The academy is being introduced through a company-wide campaign, including face-to-face sessions led by Multiverse, to ensure broad engagement across the group.
“Adopting AI is not just about investing in our systems – it’s about investing in our people,” said Debenhams Group CEO Dan Finley.
“With the launch of the AI skills academy, we’re giving our teams the tools to think differently, work smarter and build for the future.
“This is about unlocking the potential of every colleague to drive real innovation across the group.”
