Manchester SportTech Rezzil has raised $10 million (£7.5m) in strategic growth funding to expand globally.

The round brings together new strategic investors alongside continued backing from existing partners the Premier League and Simba Investments.

New strategic investors include Borussia Dortmund star Jobe Bellingham, brother of Real Madrid’s Jude, and world-renowned putting coach Phil Kenyon.

Jobe’s investment forms part of a broader strategic partnership with the Bellingham family, under which Rezzil will deliver technology supporting future digital initiatives.

They join an existing investor group that includes Thierry Henry, Cesc Fàbregas, Vincent Kompany (through Plankton and Smallfish Ltd), Tyrone Mings, Michail Antonio, Anthony Watson and Marcus Smith, creating a unique mix of corporate and strategic investors backing Rezzil’s global ambitions.

Founded in Manchester a decade ago by Adam Dickinson, Andy Etches and Gareth Thatcher, Rezzil has built a heritage in developing technologies that have transformed performance, broadcast and fan experiences across the global sporting ecosystem.

Today, its technology is trusted by hundreds of organisations, from elite teams and governing bodies to some of the world’s leading sports broadcasters, regularly powering analysis and storytelling on programmes including the BBC’s Match of the Day.

Rezzil’s next phase of growth is being led by a strengthened senior leadership team, including Sion Colley as CEO and Paul Mann as CFO. Colley and Mann previously led Angstrom Sports before its acquisition by Entain in 2023 and have invested in Rezzil as part of a strategic consortium.

Jake Loos, former Hawk-Eye and NBA executive, has been appointed to lead Rezzil’s North American expansion. Rezzil has also opened new offices in London and Chicago and expects to double its global headcount to around 100 people over the next 12 months.

While Rezzil first became known for pioneering virtual reality training in professional football, it says it is now building the future of sport through Movement Intelligence.

Movement Intelligence is the ability to transform movement into actionable insights and immersive experiences. Rezzil’s world-leading innovation is helping athletes reach their full potential, enabling leagues and rights holders to unlock the competitive and commercial value of movement, and giving broadcasters new ways to analyse, explain and enhance live sport.

Consumer gaming is also central to Rezzil’s next phase of growth. The company is investing heavily in a new generation of mobile experiences built on its Movement Intelligence, with multiple strategic partnerships currently in incubation. Rezzil expects to significantly expand its consumer team over the coming months ahead of a series of major product launches.

“For more than a decade, Rezzil has been helping shape the future of sport through technology. Today, we’re taking the next step by establishing Movement Intelligence as a category in its own right,” said Colley.

“Sport has always understood the value of insights in movement. Our ambition is to help the industry understand it in entirely new ways, creating technologies, products and experiences that weren’t previously possible.

“This investment gives us the opportunity to scale that vision globally, working with the world’s leading teams, broadcasters, athletes and rights holders to unlock the next generation of sport.”
