Social impact startup Beam has appointed David Annez as CTO.
Annez joins the London-based company after serving in the same role at Lottie, which ranked at top spot on the 2025 Startups 100.
Before that, he was VP of product at LoveHolidays, and at uSwitch, where he was head of engineering.
In his role at Beam, Annez will lead the development of the firm’s AI tool Magic Notes, which is now in use at more than 80 local authorities.
He will also support the development of tech and AI that supports Beam’s caseworkers to deliver support to thousands of vulnerable individuals.
Founded in 2017, Beam brings AI to welfare services in partnership with more than 100 government partners.
Its first AI tool in the market is Magic Notes. Social workers use the tool to record their meetings on a smartphone or laptop.
After the meeting is over, Magic Notes uses generative AI to create the paperwork they need and emails it directly to the social worker.
Alex Stephany, founder and CEO of Beam, said: “David was a natural fit for Beam: technical excellence, a passion for applying technology and AI to important real world problems and a believer in the vital importance of a high-performance culture to deliver a big and vital mission.
“He comes to Beam with huge pedigree from two of the UK’s biggest technology success stories and we’re excited to build together as Beam establishes itself as a leading global AI for good startup.”
Annez added: “There’s enormous potential for tech and AI to have a real impact on people’s lives. Beam is delivering on this potential at scale, with AI products that are already in use by thousands of frontline workers.
“As CTO, I’ll focus on ensuring that our technology is as effective as it can be, so frontline workers can get back to the job they love, and away from the desk.”
