Online giant Amazon has announced that it will bring over 1,000 full-time apprenticeships to the UK over the next two years.

On completion of the course, apprentices will have the chance to work across the UK corporate and operations sites including its head office and development centres in Edinburgh, Cambridge, and London.

The announcement follows news of its expansion in the UK with a new rumoured North East centre.

Nine different programmes lasting between 13 months and four years will be available, including IT, safety and HR apprenticeships through to robotics, software engineering, leadership and technology.

The new apprentices will add to over 27,500 permanent employees currently in the UK, with pay ranging from an entry level starting salary of £9.50/£10.50 an hour, up to £30,000 a year.

In addition to being fully-funded, apprentices will also receive, employee discounts, private medical insurance and a company pension plan.

New apprenticeships will also be offered exclusively to Amazon’s existing workforce, offering the chance to work on cutting-edge software development, robotics technology and senior leadership roles in the business.

“We want to give people opportunities to succeed in the digital age, regardless of their background,” said Doug Gurr, UK country manager at Amazon.

“Our fully-funded apprenticeship programme, from entry level through to degree level, will provide an exciting path to becoming Amazon’s future team leaders, engineers and innovation drivers.”
