A campaign has been launched to raise £500,000 in memory of Abi Godfrey, a director of Grant Thornton’s North West corporate finance business who died last month aged 34.

The money will be used to support her baby son Leo and her family.

On May 28th her former colleagues at Grant Thornton will be taking part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in her memory.

Tributes paid to Grant Thornton’s Abi Godfrey, 34

Peter Terry, a partner at Grant Thornton UK and practice lead in the North West, said: “As a team, we completed this challenge together before Abi joined us, and she always said how much she would love for us to do it again so that she could be part of it. This time, we are doing it for her.

“We will be walking in Abi’s memory whilst raising funds for baby Leo, to support him and his family during an incredibly difficult time.”

Terry invited other people to join the team and members of Abi’s family on the walk.

“There is no need to complete the whole 26-mile walk, or even one of the shorter one or two peak options, to donate,” he said. “Any donation, big or small, will help us honour Abi’s memory and make a meaningful difference for Leo.”

Godfrey joined Grant Thornton in 2024 after 11 years at Deloitte. She led the company’s national pharma and life sciences sector.

She attended Westholme School, where former teacher Debbie Northin remembered her as ‘a particularly talented and sunny-natured girl’ and a ‘bundle of energy and fun’.

A spokesman for Westholme School said: “Above all, Abi was a devoted wife to John and a loving mother to Leo.”

On her company profile, Godfrey listed her interests as going for long walks in the Lake District and skiing.
