Tech made Lancashire firm world leader in manufacturing

The CEO of a world-leading manufacturer set to speak at our Lancashire Powerhouse conference has said technology makes his firm 10 times better than its competitors.

Mark Woodward started the Printed Cup Company after being made redundant from his account manager job with another paper cup manufacturer.

He gradually built technology into the business from websites and CRM systems to its own ERP system which allows customers to track orders.

The Printed Cup Company now employs two full-time coders “which makes us better by a factor of 10 from our competitors”, according to Woodward.

“Without these systems we would not be able to offer a one-hour service, making us the fastest paper cup manufacturer in the world,” he told BusinessCloud.

The half-day conference on April 19th forms one of the main events at the annual St George’s Day Charity Festival, which is organised by entrepreneur David Haythornthwaite, chairman of Tangerine Group.

“I view Lancashire’s role within the Northern Powerhouse as very significant: it has aeronautics and nuclear fuel and is a significant manufacturing base for many companies,” he continued.

“The companies I have been to see in the county have invested in technology significantly.”

The event will take place in the marquee on Lytham Green, in Lytham, and will be chaired by award-winning journalist and editor of BusinessCloud Chris Maguire.

The half-day conference will hear from some of the county’s most successful businesses; look at the post-Brexit opportunities for exporters; highlight the rise of tech companies; examine Lancashire’s appeal to investors and developers; and look at the importance of the City Deal to the region.

In addition to Woodward and Haythornthwaite, the other confirmed speakers are: Jeremy Lefton, managing director, Roundhouse Properties; Claire Fryer, managing director, Mosaic Care Group; Stephen Johnson, founder and director, ROQ; Matthew Hirst, CEO, Utiligroup; Paul Bailey, MD, Optimum Rx Group; Vibe Tickets MD Luke Massie; David Jones, MD at VEKA UK; Stewart Townsend, managing director, Digital Lancashire; and Keith Edwards, managing director, TES Radio.
