Intelligent spaces company Purple has announced further expansion for 2017, moving to a new Greater Manchester HQ.

Last week, the North West firm announced further expansion into the US with the opening of a new office in Austin, Texas.

CEO Gavin Wheeldon, who also writes BusinessCloud’s Gadget Gavin column, used a £5.4m investment to recruit in excess of 100 new staff globally.

Purple is now looking to take on 10 more staff members to the team in its new Oldham office.

Wheeldon said: “Purple has experienced unbelievable growth over the last few years and this move to a bigger and better headquarters allows us to continue building momentum.

“I’m sure the team will love the new office in Oldham, it not only offers staff a lot more space but the move marks a dynamic new chapter for Purple.”

Purple specialises in WiFi solutions that generate real-time analytics and marketing for venues and businesses that want to engage with visitors and understand the use of physical spaces.

Prior to the Oldham move, the firm was based in Ashton-under-Lyne for four years, where it began with a headcount of just six employees.

It now boasts 20 million users worldwide, with deployments in 73 countries and offices based in the U.S., Spain, Chile, Singapore and Australia.

The company is ‘particularly proud’ of helping tackle the issue of the lack of women in technology, having recruited 14 female members of staff in recent months.

Partner account manager Angharad Little was hired during Purple’s latest recruitment drive.

The 27-year-old said: “I am excited to be working with Purple as it has an amazing product and an energetic, innovative culture.

“Working with such a thriving technology startup gives me the opportunity to contribute to something great and be part of Purple’s future success.”
