The CEO of Edinburgh-based communications firm Commsworld remains upbeat despite a slight dip in profits.
Founded in 1994, Commsworld operates the largest privately owned network in the UK and now employs around 130 staff.
The business reported turnover of £36.9m for 2025, in line with the previous year, while increasing its higher-value recurring revenues, which continue to strengthen the company’s long-term foundations.
Despite pre-tax profits falling to £3.6m from £4.7m in 2024, the business continued to generate strong operational cash flow closely aligned with EBITDA, which reached £6.2m compared with £7m the previous year.
Chief executive Steve Langmead said: “Commsworld’s results show that the company remains in very good health, with growth in recurring revenue and robust cash generation only strengthening the foundations from which we will grow.
“We continue to focus on Commsworld’s strengths – delivering high-quality, flexible, robust and resilient services to our customers.
“There are challenges in the sector for example guiding customers through the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) shutdown, and global business uncertainty resulting in a slowing down of customer decision-making, but our primary aim as a company is to continue to grow and evolve by delivering excellence to our customers.”
During the year, Commsworld completed significant infrastructure projects for key customers, including the upgrade of Wigan Council’s local and wide area networks and the successful transition of Glasgow City Council’s connectivity services onto the Commsworld network.
The company also secured several major new contracts, including a 15-year agreement with West Lothian Council to modernise, manage and support its Wide Area Network across public sector sites throughout the region.
With a strong pipeline of opportunities heading into 2026, the company said it was well placed to build on its momentum as organisations continue to invest in secure, resilient digital infrastructure.
Commsworld manages and controls the largest privately owned Optical Core Network in the UK.
In June 2020, it completed the final rollout of its nationwide ultra-fast optical core network, in which it continues to invest.
This means Commsworld is connected to all of the country’s Internet Exchanges, linking major cities including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London to its network.
